Focal Point Episode 1: Dr. Pavle Lozo

 

Meet Dr. Pavle Lozo, an optometrist at Bonavista Eyecare. 

Raised in Calgary and a graduate of Pacific University, Dr. Lozo’s passion for eye care began with his own experience wearing glasses and contact lenses in high school. After seeing how vision correction transformed his life in sports and school, he dedicated his career to helping others achieve that same clarity.

In this video, Dr. Lozo breaks down the critical "red flag" symptoms of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The most significant warning sign is metamorphopsia — when straight objects like door frames or light poles suddenly appear wavy or distorted. 

Other symptoms include:

  • Smudgy central vision or blurred spots in your direct line of sight

  • Object size differences between the two eyes

  • Distorted grids, where straight lines look curved or broken

Early detection is key. Dr. Lozo emphasizes that these symptoms should always be evaluated alongside your personal and family history to ensure an accurate diagnosis and timely care.
